MUKAH: Madellina Bujang’s beauty, confidence and intelligence had won the hearts of judges who crowned her the Teluwaih Jinih Mukah (Ratu Kaul Mukah) 2011, a beauty contest held at Pesta Kaul Mukah at Pantai Kala Dana here last Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Miri lass walked home with a crown, sash, cash, evening gown courtesy of Rozie Khan Couture Kuala Lumpur, Maswings air tickets, 3 days and 2 nights stay at Kingwood Resorts and Hotel, a bouquet of flowers and certificate.

In second place was Nuraini Hasnul, 25, of Kampung Tellian Laut, Mukah and 22-year-old Noraini Mohd Amin of Kampung Sungai Ragei, Mukah came in third.

The Photogenic subsidiary title was won by Siti Hasmah Hasbee, 27, a lawyer from Kuching who walked home with cash, Busana Melanau costume courtesy of Latip’s Collection Mukah, a sash and a framed personal potrait.

Two other participants, Anthea Ngu Sulaiman and Khairun Nazwa Kassim, who were among the top five contestants walked home with the consolation prizes.

The beauty contest attracted a total of 15 participants including Elizabeth Louis, Suryani Mohd Firdaus, Juwita Japar, Mimi Sophia Han, Farah Hafizah Dawis, Raudzah Mohamad Khariji, Nur Ashikin Shalneeraj, Tracy Ho and Nur Fazrina Nafizah Abdul Rahim.

Besides showing their catwalk skill in traditional wedding dress and evening gowns, contestants were also required to answer questions on general knowledge.

The successfully held beauty contest was sponsored by Latip’s Collection Mukah which is owned by Abdul Latip Mohti, Rozie Khan Couture Kuala Lumpur, Suki Jari Mas, Musa Design and make-up by Ct Sarah, Shasa and Man.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah who was the guest-of-honour presented the prizes to the winner.

Also present were Mukah Resident Saudi Narani and his wife Selbiah Nek, Badan Warisan Budaya Mukah (Warismu) chairman Sazali Morshidi, heads of government departments and community leaders.
