SIBU: Catholic Bishops from Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei region celebrated a Mass in Latin on Monday evening to mark the 25th anniversary of the Episcopal ordination of Right Rev Dominic Su.

Archbishop of Singapore, the Most Reverend Nicholas Chia, gave the homily during the Mass at St Mary’s Church.

He called on the faithful to be grateful to God for all the blessings that had been showered on them, like the provision of priests and bishops.

GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN: Former St Mary’s parish priest Fr William Bos is greeted by parishioners as he arrives at the church. Fr Bos had gone back to Holland after his retirement last year.

WELCOME BACK: Su (right) walks with his brother, Francis, also a priest, who came back to join the celebration at St Mary’s Church.

Urging the laity to work closely with the clergy to enhance the growth of the church, he invited Christians to learn from the Christian community of the early times.

“We must be community minded, serve one another, love one another and show respect to one another,” he said.

The bishop also invited the faithful to make the ‘cross’ their way of life, saying the vertical piece of the cross symbolised one’s relationship with God and the horizontal piece symbolized one’s relationship with fellow human beings.

Meanwhile, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Hii will be installed as Bishop of Sibu at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 5.30pm today.
