Using sunglasses to view solar eclipse may cause irreversible damage, scientists warn

BRUSSELS: Scientists across Europe have warned people against wearing sunglasses to view today’s solar eclipse, Xinhua news agency reported. It strongly cautioned the public against viewing the eclipse through dark glasses and video cameras.

“These objects are not only unsuitable for observing the sun but are dangerous and could cause irreversible damage to the retina,” said the Ministry of Health.

Viewers must use glasses especially equipped to observe solar eclipses to view the phenomenon. — Bernama
