KUCHING: WPC Cascadia Sdn Bhd (WPC Cascadia) is introducing to Sarawak a new building material in the form of wood plastic composite (WPC), an environmental-friendly which requires little maintenance.

Mega Wood, WPC Cascadia’s brand name for this product, was developed by the company 13 years ago in China. WPC Cascadia’s factory is located in Guangzhou, China.

According to WPC Cascadia president Peter Ting, the company was one of the first in China to develop this WPC.

Mega Wood is composed of wood powder and high density PVC, extruded to the desired shape.

On why customers should choose Mega Wood, Ting explained among others, that it is a green product, almost maintenance-free, recyclable, has a strong wood texture, is sturdy and is non-toxic.

Furthermore, Mega Wood is easy and fast to install. Ting gave the example of WPC Cascadia’s office, whereby it took only nine days to complete the installation of the products in the building. The renovation, along with the clean up totalled up to only 12 days before their official opening.

Mega Wood is also waterproof and resistant to salt water, which makes this product suitable for beach resorts or houses along the beach.

In addition, the product is weather proof, insect and termite resistant and fire retardant (which is approved by Bomba).

Mega Wood can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications, does not fade easily nor decay. Other features include anti-mold, non-cracking and moisture resistant properties.

With all these advantages, Ting underlined that it is time to stop relying on timber as building materials especially with all the maintenance required which will also eventually lead to high costs.

On display next to WPC Cascadia’s office is a showcase of a chalet, gazebo, pergola and others, allowing customers to see up close the various types of buildings Mega Wood can be used for.

Ting said that houses using Mega Wood allows the buildings to be lightweight but strong because it has an interconnected steel framework.

In addition, WPC Cascadia uses PVC resin for the roofing of its buildings, which carries a 10-year non-fading warranty and a 25-year non-decaying and non-cracking warranty.

Ting highlighted that beginning November this year, WPC Cascadia will be building the first floating homestay, consisting of two rooms and a toilet, in Malaysia at Bakun on the lake.
