KUCHING: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) showed their commitment to eradicate corruption by taking the anti-corruption pledge yesterday.

By taking the pledge, it also showed that Socso was committed to assist Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in eradicating corruption in the organisation, Sarawak MACC director Datuk Badrul Shah Norman said.

“The actions taken by Socso clearly demonstrates their sincerity, commitment and desire to serve in a conducive work environment that’s free from corruption in carrying out their responsibility to the people,” he said in his speech read by MACC Sarawak deputy director (Prevention) Zulhairy Zaidel during the Socso anti-corruption pledge ceremony at Wisma Perkeso here yesterday.

Badrul pointed out that the anti-corruption pledge was unique and different compared to the corporate integrity pledge as it emphasised the pledge and promise made by the leaders and agencies in their capacity as individuals to uphold their responsibility and accountability to avoid and refrain from corruption, malpractice, and abuse of power when carrying out their duties.

He also stressed that the fight against corruption is a great task that must be shared and respected by all members of society particularly those who work and serve in government agencies to ensure the country is free from any corruption, malpractice and abuse of power.

“This is also in line with the Government Transformation Programme which does not want the civil service to be polluted by corruption where senior officers are seen living a luxurious lifestyle that’s beyond their income and collecting properties through corruption,” he said, adding that this can affect the overall image of the civil service.

In view of this, he called on Socso to join forces with MACC and ensure that everyone takes on the social and moral responsibility to uphold intergrity for the sake of the country.

During the ceremony, Zulhairy witnessed the recital of the pledge by Socso staff as well as the signing of the anti-corruption pledge led by Socso Sarawak director Phillip Sangkan.
