KOTA KINABALU: The formation of Gabungan Bersatu Sabah (GBS) is expected to be formalised soon.
According to Sabah Umno Liaison chief Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, the application to register the new opposition bloc in Sabah has been submitted to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and expected to be completed very soon.
Umno will join parties like PBS, Parti Solidarity Tanah Airku (STAR), other local parties and independent candidates in forming GBS.
However, STAR president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said that Umno might be revamping itself as some of its members are talking about forming a new party.
“They realise that Sabahans now are choosing local based political parties but they will have to discuss with Umno’s central leadership on how this will be done. It cannot be that they will be replaced by others after the left party.
“It must be in manner where Umno ceases to operate in Sabah as that is the intention,” he said adding that Umno Sabah has to resolve the matter.
