MP presents cheques to 14 Chinese associationsLAWAS: Lawas member of parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong presented cheques the under the Minor Rural Project to 14 Chinese associations and NGOs in support of their activities in Lawas district.

The cheques were presented yesterday to the recipients at his parliamentary service centre, which, he said, is a continuous programme from BN elected representative.

“This is not election goody but something which I had consistently done as part of the commitment to serve the people,” he said.

The recipients were KRT Bandar Lawas, Lawas Chinese Cultural Club, Lions Club Lawas, Lawas Basketball Association, Yuanji Dancing Troupe, Chinese Charitable Trust board of Trusan, Chung Hua, Chinese Chamber of Commerce Lawas, Foochow Association Lawas, Three Circle Sport Club, Merapok Chinese Association, Lawas Hawkers Association, Chang Chuan Association and Chee Wu Khor Uplifting Society.

Henry, however, urged the people to turn up in numbers to show their support by accompanying the respective BN candidates to the nomination centres for N 70 Ba kelalan at the Lawas District Council and N 71 Bukit Sari at Lawas Indoor Stadium.

“Let us show our support to the government as this is the time it needs us, and we need to work hard to ensure that Lawas district will remain a BN stronghold,” he said.

In his meeting with community leaders and leaders from the Lun Bawang community in Lawas, he advised them to continue upholding their image as grassroots leaders.

He said they should stop villagers from running down the government by giving the appropriate explanations and taking necessary actions.

On various project implementations for Lawas parliamentary constituency, which included PPRT and 1Azam welfare assistance scheme, he said they would commence after the conclusion of the state election.
