‘Automatic dissolution of Parliament can become common practice’

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan is in the opinion that the automatic dissolution of Parliament can be made a common practice as it has positive implications, especially in terms of nation development.

He said this was because the method was able to avoid speculations on the date for the next general election, which to some extent, had slowed down investment activities in the country.

“For me, all this talks and speculations about the election are not good because local and foreign investors will decide to wait and see (before making investment) and this is not good for the economy,” he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here
yesterday.

Mohamad said the move to delay the dissolution of Parliament or allow it to be dissolved automatically could also enable the government to take full advantage of the five-year period to develop the country without being disturbed by other things.

The Parliament will be dissolved automatically on April 30 and Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was the first state assembly to complete its term.

Meanwhile, Mohamad said he had an audience with Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir earlier yesterday to inform that the State Legislative Assembly would be automatically dissolved today and briefed him about the functions of the temporary government to run the state.

He said the temporary government would not be making any big decisions and would only continue what had been done previously and manage the welfare of the people and civil servants.

On the performance of the state government, Mohamad said he was satisfied with the performance of all members of the state executive council and state department over the past five years.

He said many achievements have been recorded with the effectiveness of the policies introduced such as Education Policy, Social Security Network Policy and Economic Development Policy.

“These policies have benefited the people and we will continue implementing this policy if the BN government continues to receive the mandate to rule the state in the 13th general election,” he added.

Mohamad also reminded all state assemblymen to continue serving the people in their respective constituencies although they were no longer the ‘Yang Berhormat’ after the automatic dissolution of the state assembly today.

“Although the term is over, it does not mean that they cannot continue serving the people. They can still do that as a community leader.

“The assemblymen’s service centres are probably unsuitable for them to use now, but we still have Barisan Nasional service centres that they can use for the purpose,” he added. — Bernama
