iCats collaborates with Gumi University

KUCHING: International College of Advanced Technology (iCATS) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Gumi University, an institution of higher learning based in Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea to promote activities of mutual interest.

The MoU was signed by iCATS president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain and Gumi University vice-president Dr Jeong Chang Jo during the college’s visit to Korea on June 14.

“In an effort to internationalise our lifelong learning processes, we are very happy to collaborate with Gumi University to begin work on development of exchange programmes between both learning institutions and to promote activities of mutual interest,” said Abdul Aziz in a press statement yesterday.

The signing of the MoU will formalise the intent of both institutions to cooperate and establish certain exchange programmes with an international focus between students, faculty members and administrators.

He also said the MoU will allow both parties to continue to promote the development of joint studies, research and training activities and other educational programmes of mutual interest.

Programmes to be considered by the learning institutions include an English Enhancement programme as well as electrical and electronic programmes.

The statement also said that 90 per cent of Gumi University’s graduates are employed by multinational companies such as Samsung and LG and this should be taken advantage of by the electrical/electronic engineering diploma students in iCATS’ as they will be allowed to enter the final year of such degree courses at Gumi University.

Among the delegation was iCATS chief executive officer Baharudin Abdullah and chief operating officer Isham Fauzi.
