KUCHING: The Summer Shopping Mall will benefit from Kota Samarahan’s increasing presence with the entry of various prominent learning institutions and large coglomerates.

According to managing director Dato Lee Chee Fui, “With the development of University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), University Technology Mara Sarawak (UiTM) and the Tun Abdul Razak Teacher’s Training College, Kota Samarahan has quickly lived up to its nickname of the town of knowledge.

“Apart from that, we have the presence of large conglomerates such as SALCRA, the Sarawak General Hospital Heart Center and Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd around the Samarahan area, it is undeniable that the future of Samarahan is nothing but positive.”

This was among the highlights mentioned during the official opening of The Summer Shopping Mall yesterday by Chief Minister Pehin Seri Taib Mahmud.

The construction of the building which houses over 200 retail outlets took 24 months to complete began operations on June 29, 2013. The mall is now recognised as the latest attraction and landmark in Kota Samarahan which was incepted as a division since 1986, covering an area of 407 square kilometres.

Lee further commented that to date, there were numerous housing and commercial developments in the area with more than 40,000 households within a five minute-radius from the mall.

“As such, the presence of the mall has enhanced the living standards of the people in the area.

“Covering 900,000 square feet of commercial area consisting of approximately 200 retail stores with a wide range of tenant mix, the residents of Samarahan can now indulge in Kuching lifestyle right at their doorsteps.”

Meanwhile, Pandalela Rinong was appointed as the ambassador for Summer Mall’s Water Theme Park during the official ceremony, with the water theme park being the first in Sarawak.
