KOTA KINABALU: Over 300 Sabahan youths are studying in various information and communication technology (ICT) and multimedia fields at Multimedia College (MMC) Sabah Campus at Alamesra Permai Plaza here.

MMC is a subsidiary of Multimedia University (MMU), under the Telekom Malaysia (TM) Education Group. The group is exploring further opportunities to expand ICT and multimedia technical training
services and facilities to assist more Malaysians to acquire skills and certifications.

This is also in support of the government’s aspiration to produce highly skilled workers for the country by 2020.

Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat was briefed on this by TM Sabah general manager Sukkuriya Masri and TM MMU general manager Datin Norlinda Hassan who paid a courtesy visit to his office at Wisma Bandaraya here recently.

The minister was told that MMC catered not only to those fresh from schools but also working people who had skills in the relevant fields but did not have recognised certifications.

MMC also offers Malaysian Skills Certification (SKM) courses up to diploma level. A person only need to have a minimum of one SPM credit to enrol for a certificate-level course or a minimum of three SPM credits for the diploma level.

The course programmes offered include the Diploma in Technology (Telecommunications Engineering), Diploma in Creative New Media, Diploma in Software Engineering, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Management with Multimedia, Diploma in Accounting, Certification in Multimedia Artist Visual and Certification in Multimedia Designer Artist Visual & Animation.

Siringan welcomed the efforts by TM Education Group in providing another avenue for young Sabahans to acquire skills and certificates, saying the ministry would also study the possibility of future collaboration between both.

The ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Bruno Vun was also present.
