SHAH ALAM: A teacher died and two others fainted after a lightning strike at a secondary school here yesterday, police said today (Jan 29).

Shah Alam Police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the deceased was identified as Mohd Farhan Masudi, 32, who had been teaching at a secondary school in Tanjong Karang.

The two others, in their 30s, whom he did not name, were in stable condition at the Shah Alam Hospital, he said in a message sent via WhatsApp.

Shafien said Mohd Farhan and five other teachers had taken shelter at a metal gate entrance to the school hall in Section 11 here at 4.20pm when it started to rain heavily.

They were among 40 teachers from Selangor who were attending a football coaching course at the school.

Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning and Mohd Farhan collapsed to the ground with severe injuries on the upper part of his body, he said.

Two other teachers who went to his aid suffered electric shocks and fainted, he added.

Shafien said Mohd Farhan was rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital but died on the way there. – Bernama
