KUCHING: It’s been a tense few hours but results are out and PH candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has officially won the Port Dickson (PD) by-election by a landslide of 31,016 votes

According to the Election Commission (EC), he has secured a 23,560 majority over PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar who came in second with 7,456 votes. Independent candidate and former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad came in third with 4,230 votes.

Early on, the poll figures started off strong for both PH and PAS candidates but by 7.00pm it was clear the Anwar would be the winning candidate as PH votes had already doubled over PAS votes by then.

This time round, the turnout to the PD by-election was announced to be 58.25 per ent by the EC.

The turnout rate while lower than the 83.16 per cent rate seen in GE14 was still higher than the three previous by-elections that occurred after GE14.

According to online news portal Malaysiakini, the turnouts for the previous by-elections are Sungai Kandis with 49.4 per cent, Seri Setia with 44.1 per cent and Bala Kong with 43 per cent.

With this by-election win, Anwar will is set to finally rejoin parliament after a long political hiatus.
