KUCHING: SUPP Youth has challenged Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to reveal the contents of the proposed amendment to Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution which is expected to be tabled in Parliament within this week.

Its secretary general Milton Foo said with days to the tabling of the amendment Bill, the people of Sarawak are still in the dark on what the contents are.

“This is absolutely unfair to Sarawak. It proves that the MPs from Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak fail to speak or voice out for Sarawakians in the Parliament,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He was responding to Chong’s statement on Sunday in which Chong had said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had been silent on their stand in regards to the proposed amendment, and described their hesitation to show their commitment in supporting the amendment Bill as an “utter disservice to Sarawak”.

Foo said Chong, as PH Sarawak chairman, had not only failed to explain to Sarawakians the contents of the proposed amendment but he also had the cheek to ask GPS MPs to refrain from disrupting and give their full support to the proposed constitutional amendment.

“What if the constitutional amendment is unfavourable to Sarawak thus jeopardising Sarawak’s interests? It is affront to logic for GPS MPs to support the amendment blindly if this is the outcome of the amendment.

“Chong’s remarks have proven that he does not represent and stand in the position of Sarawakians to safeguard the interests of Sarawak, but instead he represents Malaya whom he has all along shown obedience and acquiescence to,” he remarked.

He wondered why Chong, as an MP and also Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, had so much difficulty in obtaining the contents of the Bill.

“Is it because Chong himself has been kept clueless by his Malayan leader and does not know the contents of such amendment?

“I challenge Chong and PH MPs from Sarawak to reveal to the public especially Sarawakians the contents of such constitutional amendments as soon as possible so that the people can review or comment on it.”

He stressed that the stance of SUPP Youth remains resolute in that they shall not compromise on and will always fight against any political attempt via constitutional amendment or alteration in disguise which in fact erodes the sovereignty of Sarawak and harms the interests of the people of Sarawak.
