SERIAN: The appointment of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister brings an end to the country’s political impasse and enables Malaysia to move forward, said Dato Sri Michael Manyin.

The Education, Science and Technological Research Minister said uncertainties caused by the impasse would have caused the country to suffer had it dragged on.

“The whole country should welcome (Muhyiddin); at least this breaks the (political) impasse. As long as there is no prime minister and we are still in a mess, the country will suffer.

“Investors will never come in and all the businesses will never actually proceed because of the uncertainties. For that, we should thank the Agong and congratulate him for his wisdom to solve the impasse,” he said when met following an event at Ranchan Multipurpose Hall, here yesterday.

Manyin added that although Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is not part of the newly-formed Perikatan Nasional pact, some GPS MPs could be part of the new federal cabinet.

“As far as GPS now is concerned and as far as what I have been informed, we are not in the (new) coalition but we can actually be members of the cabinet. This means that some of the GPS MPs can actually be appointed as cabinet members.

“This also means that GPS will totally support Muhyiddin as prime minister.”

Meanwhile, Manyin declined to comment on the move by Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot to back Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the nation’s premier.

“That one I cannot comment because this is very personal. It is a good question, but it is also a good question not to be answered – so I leave it to him (Riot) to answer,” he said.
