KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has announced Dato Wan Abdillah Edruce Wan Abdul Rahman and Wilson Entabang as its candidates to stand in Lingga and Simanggang, respectively, in the next state election.

Party president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said PSB was supposed to make this announcement during the launch of PSB Lingga and Simanggang branch today, but the launch event was postponed due to the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19).

“Dato Wan Abdillah is an active social worker who has been doing a lot of charitable work in the area. He is well-connected, being close to a lot of people on the ground, so we have chosen him as our candidate for Lingga.

“He is also the grandson of former governor Datuk Patinggi Tuanku Bujang,” he announced at a press conference at the PSB headquarters in Pending here.

According to Wong, Wilson was formerly the assistant director of the state Agriculture Department.

“He opted for early retirement and to stand as candidate under PSB for Simanggang.”

Wong said both Wan Abdillah and Wilson were well know figures in the areas.

“They have been on the ground for the past few months, working very hard, preparing for the state election,” he added.

Prior to this, PSB has announced its candidates for Opar, Tasik Biru, Balai Ringin, Marudi, Tamin, Dudong, Bawang Assan, Engkilili and Batang Ai.

PSB secretary general George Lo said the launch event planned in Sri Aman this morning was expected to draw a crowd of over a thousand people.

However, the party decided to call off the event due to the advisory issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, which advised against holding events involving more than 250 people, he said.

Lo said “it was for public safety and health” that PSB decided to call off the launch function.

“We don’t want to put people in a position where they might be infected,” he said, adding that the party will postpone its forthcoming events as well.

PSB has to postpone the launching of its Kakus branch tomorrow until the Covid-19 situation stabilises.

It will also indefinitely postpone the launch of PSB Batu Danau and Pelagus branch.
