SIBU: The majority of the eatery outlets, including restaurants and coffee shops, can now operate up to 12 midnight or until the time as stipulated in their business licence.

Sibu Resident Charles Siaw who said this yesterday added that 24-hour convenience stores can operate round the clock.

He made this announcement in reply to queries from many eatery outlet operators who were confused as to the actual operation hours for their business.

As a result, many of them chose to operate their business up till 10pm for fear of getting summonses from the police if they operated until 12 midnight.

Siaw, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Sibu Division chairman, said during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, the business operating hours was up to 7pm before it was extended to 10pm under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

“Now, under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) phase, the eatery outlets are allowed to operate up till 12 midnight,” he said.

Political secretary to the Chief Minister Michael Tiang, when contacted, also confirmed that eatery outlets could operate up to 12 midnight since June 19.

“According to the latest SOP released on June 16, eatery outlets can operate from 7am to 11.59pm,” he added.

Separately, in his Facebook posting, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting also confirmed that eatery outlets could operate their business from 7am to 11.59pm.

He said the operators were allowed two hours before opening to prepare and two hours after closing to clean up.
