KUCHING: The police have arrested a married couple after a plant believed to be ganja tree was found at their house in Kampung Paya Mebi, Jalan Landeh here at around 3pm yesterday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan who confirmed the arrest, said the plant, measuring to about eight centimetres in height was discovered by the police on verandah of the the house.

“The male suspect, a 44-year-old told police that he took the plant home after stumbling upon it at a roadside three weeks ago,” said Aidil.

Based on the suspect’s description of the place, police went to investigate but found no other ganja plants in the area.

He added that the male suspect was tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in a drug test.

His police record also showed that the suspect has two previous cases for drug related activities.

The 35-year-old female, however, was tested negative for drugs and do not have a past criminal record.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
