Covid-19: 18 new positive cases recorded in Malaysia today, total at 8,634

KUCHING: Malaysia recorded 18 new positive Covid-19 cases today, comprising four imported cases and the remaining were locally transmitted, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“All locally transmitted cases involved foreigners and three of the imported cases were Malaysians,” said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement shared on Ministry of Health’s Facebook page today.

For the new locally transmitted cases, Dr Noor Hisham said nine cases were reported in Negeri Sembilan, one in Kuala Lumpur and two each in Selangor and Sabah.

“As for imported cases, three cases were reported in Selangor and one in Sarawak. The patients were coming from Bangladesh, Iraq and London,” said Dr Noor Hisham, adding there was a total of 623 imported cases to date.

With the new positive cases, he said the cumulative cases of Covid-19 in the country stood at 8,634 as of date.

“A total of 195 Covid-19 cases are still active. Two patients are currently receiving treatments in intensive care units and no patient requires ventilator support,” he said.

Moreover, Dr Noor Hisham said 10 patients had recovered from the virus and were discharged from hospitals today, bringing the total of those discharged from hospitals to 8,318.

No deaths due to the virus were reported today and the death toll remains at 121 or 1.40 per cent of total positive cases, he added.
