KUCHING: The driver of a concrete-mixer lorry and his assistant were killed in an accident that occurred at a section of Jalan Batu Pesok in Betong late yesterday afternoon.
Fire and Rescue Department, in a statement, said based on initial investigation, the driver might have lost control of the heavy vehicle, causing it to plunge into a 10m ravine at that section of the road.
Firefighters used an excavator to stabilise the lorry before taking the driver and his assistant out of the wrecked cabin. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The bodies were later handed over to the police for further action. The whole operation ended at 5.10pm.
