KUCHING: Former students of Form 5 class of 1977 and 1978 of St Joseph’s raised RM10,000 to buy reusable masks for four charitable bodies here recently.

The fundraising was initiated by Dr Dennis Kong and Raymond Goh to help the needy so that they have face masks to wear to keep Covid-19 at bay.

The money collected was used to commission locals to make washable and reusable face masks, said Dr Kong in a statement.

“There’s overwhelming evidence showing the importance of wearing face mask in flattening the Covid-19 curve. We would like to encourage use of reusable masks to take demand off masks like N95 which are more for the frontline medical staff,” he said.

The guest of honour at the handing-over was Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who also contributed to the fundraiser.

The recipients were Sarawak Children Cancer Society, Hope Place Kuching, Sarawak Society for the Blind and Green Ribbon Association Kuching.
