Motorcyclist killed in Tuaran crash

Police carrying out investigation at the scene of accident at Tuaran bypass, near Taman Canggih.

KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist was killed when he rammed into a Toyota Harrier vehicle at Tuaran bypass, near Taman Canggih, on Thursday.

Daulis @ Yukik Bin Gunting, 66, from Kampung Tombongon, Kiulu was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Kota Kinabalu Police Chief, ACP Habibi Majinji said police investigation revealed the incident happened when the driver of the Toyota Harrier made a U-turn along Tuaran bypass around 7.20pm on July 2.

“The driver of the Toyota Harrier was believed heading towards Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2 from Taman Puri Warisan,” he said.

As the driver made a U-turn, the victim on his Yamaha motorcycle rammed into the left side of the Toyota Harrier, he said.

The victim was then thrown from his motorcycle and landed by the roadside due to the impact, he added.
“Paramedics who arrived at the scene confirmed the victim’s dead due to head and body injuries,” said Habibi.

The victim’s body has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for a post-mortem while the driver of the Toyota Harrier, 52, was detained to facilitate police investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
