KUCHING: The family of a former Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) staff member has received a donation of RM27,222.40 from the body.

Mohamad Hussein Ali, who served as Saberkas corporate management unit (public relations) assistant, passed away at Sarawak General Hospital in May this year, due to kidney complications.

He was 56.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the handover of the cheque from Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad – who is also Saberkas secretary-general – to the widow Selina Hamdi, during a simple ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday.

In addition, the event also held the presentation of RM2,000 from Social Security Organisation (Socso) to Selina, meant as money for funeral arrangements.

Additionally, Selina will also be receiving the ‘Survivor’s Pension’ from Socso, in the form of monthly pension for life, and also interest payments to her children up until they reach the age of 21.

Socso Sarawak director Phillip Sangkan, Socso Kuching Prihatin Squad officer Abang Mohammed Razali Abang Salleh and Saberkas executive-secretary Iszuan Haroni were also present.
