SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) is embarking on a RM4.39-million maintenance work on 20 roads at Bawang Assan state constituency this year, said Senator Robert Lau.

“The work started after the State Disaster Management Committee had given the green light for contractors to carry out work.

“Work is still in progress and is expected to be completed in a few months’ time.

“The fund is from Marris (Malaysian Road Records Information System),” Lau disclosed.

In addition to the road works, Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had also engaged its contractors to clear some of the drains, one of which is the storm drain along Tai Sing Road, pointed out the former deputy chairman of SRDC on Sunday.

Lau, accompanied by councillor Tang Tung Kwong and Kapitan Chew Hoo Kiong and some local residents, was inspecting some of these works by contractors of SRDC and DID. They also visited some of the residents at Sungai Bidut and Empawah areas.
