SIDS, SDGA to hold joint webinar on community resilience

KUCHING: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) and Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) will hold their first ever joint webinar titled ‘Community Resilience in the Midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic’ on July 18 at 8pm.

In a joint press statement, SIDS and SDGA said the webinar will feature prominent Dayak personalities.

SIDS chairperson Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling is scheduled to give the opening speech, while the speakers are Tan Sri Empiang Jabu Research chair and Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu campus Faculty of Humanity, Management and Science dean Prof Dr Jayum Jawan; Academy of Sciences Malaysia fellow Assoc Prof Dr Madeline Berma; and Borneo International Exhibition managing director and Tenun founder Fiona Marcus Raja.

The session will be moderated by SDGA vice-president Dr Florianna Lendai.

The webinar’s objectives include to explore challenges, opportunities, and shared community values in the trying times of this pandemic.

It is also aimed at promoting better understanding of aspects related to community resilience, to explain several initiatives in the area of community sustainability as a support to the state of Sarawak, and to provide motivation and encouragement through positive initiatives shared by speakers.

“Both associations have been actively engaging with the Dayak community in Sarawak to move forward together as a community, to push for better status in society, well-being, and to be better socio-economically through many initiatives,” said the statement.

SIDS and SDGA hope at least 200 participants will register for the webinar.

At present 98 have signed up to take part.
