BAU: Police arrested two individuals during raids on two business premises on Wednesday in connection with online gambling.

Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the two individuals were arrested in Siniawan based on intelligence gleaned by Sarawak police contingent headquarters personnel under Ops Dadu.

He said both suspects, a 23-year-old local male and a 17-year-old foreign female, were arrested on suspicion of being online gambling agents.

“The first raid was made at around 3.21pm, which led to the arrest of the male suspect and followed by the second arrest in the same area,” Poge said in a statement yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

“If convicted of the offences, there will be a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM50,000, or not more than three years’ jail,” said Poge.

He called for cooperation from the public to report information on online gambling activities to the police.

“Please report to us so that action can be taken in our efforts to curb online gambling,” he said.
