Mayor assures city council will clear blockage at water discharge outlets

MIRI: Miri Mayor Adam Yii has assured residents here that council will take immediate action to clear any blockage at  main water-discharge outlets and clear clogged drains in the Jalan Sealine, Jalan Pantai at Lutong, Senadin and Tudan areas.

In a press statement yesterday, Yii said the weather forecast expects isolated heavy downfalls and thunderstorms for the next few days here which cause flash flood especially in low lying areas mentioned.

He advised residents and shopkeepers along Pantai Lutong, former Shell airstrip, Jalan Batu Satu and Senadin to be constantly alert .

He issued the statement after inspecting areas affected by flash floods at here, following heavy downpour and rise in sea level caused by king tide along the seafront.

Also present during the inspection were Miri Bomba Chief, Superintendent Law Poh Kiong; MCC secretary Morshidi Fredrick; head of MCC Public Relations Section, Mohd Zaidi and officials from the council’s Engineering Department.

Yii also urged everyone to stay safe and observe safety precautions when using electrical appliances during floods.

“In case of assistance needed, they can call emergency hotline 999 or Bomba – 420991 or 422973,” he said.
