Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini said the company understood that many Malaysians had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and floods in several states.

“As we remain hopeful for the New Year, we are sensitive to the current sentiment and subsequently rolled-out Carlsberg’s ‘Celebrate Prosperity, Cheers For Tomorrow’ food aid campaign. We hope that with RM1 million worth of food essentials, 2,000 families whose livelihoods have been impacted can rejoice while keeping the celebration moderate,” he said.

Carlsberg joined forces with The Borneo Post, See Hua Daily News, The Sun Daily, Star Foundation, and Yayasan Nanyang Press to reach out to 2,000 underprivileged Malaysians across the nation – regardless of race and creed.

Those affected by the pandemic could apply through these media foundations or corporations, with the priority given to orphans, single parents, disabled individuals (OKU), and individuals from B40 group. The application form would be published in papers today and the next few days.

Star Foundation and Star Media Group chairman Dato’ Fu Ah Kiow said while many were trying hard to adapt to the new normal, it was often the vulnerable that were left behind with little means to survive.

“To this end, Star would like to thank Carlsberg for initiating this project and inviting Star Foundation and non-profit MyKasih Foundation to be part of this noble cause. Together, we will help reduce the burden of needy families through the provision of essential supplies,” he said.

The Sun managing editor Eddie Hoo noted that it was during times like this that all must show compassion and help those in need.

“Carlsberg’s move to alleviate some of the difficulties faced by the B40 group is indeed commendable. We hope other major corporations can give back to society by aiding underprivileged Malaysians,” he said.
