3 men compounded, 1 female foreigner arrested during raid on reflexology centre in Batu Kawa

KUCHING (Jan 18): Three men were compounded and a female foreigner was arrested for a late night karaoke session at a reflexology centre in Batu Kawa New Township yesterday.

Padawan district police chief Superintendent Aidil Bolhassan said that the three men, aged between 46 to 57 years old, were customers at the premises and had been compounded for not following the standard operating procedures (SOP) and staying at the premises beyond the time set under Rule 3 of the  Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (PPPPB)(No.9) 2020.

He added that the female foreigner, 46, from Fujian, China was the caretaker of the premises and had been detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

“At around 11.45pm, a police team from IPD Padawan conducting Op Covid-19 had raided the premises in Batu Kawa New Township.

“During the check, they found that the entrance to the premises was closed but loud music could still be heard from the outside,” he said in a statement today.

Aidil said that the police team had knocked on the door several times but the caretaker did not cooperate and refused to open the door.

“After the police tried to open the door, she came and opened the door. In the premises, there were three local men, who were customers, seen failing to adhere with the SOP which was not practising social distancing and remaining in the premises beyond the time allowed as the premises was supposed to close at 10pm,” he said.

Preliminary investigations found that the caretaker had been working in the premises for the past four years and she admitted that the karaoke rooms in the premises did not have any business licenses.

Police seized a set of television, remote control, three units of speakers, a unit of song search monitor, a set of microphones, a unit of hard disk, karaoke processor, a unit of Taifoq TM 2000 VA, a unit of audio/video selector and amplifier unit.

The case is classified under Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000.
