SIBU: Many local business operators are still confused about the types of essential services that are allowed to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period in Sibu, which remains in force until Jan 29.

In this respect, Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit observed that there were premises and trading activities not included under the ‘essential services’ category still operating on the second day of MCO here, yesterday.

“There may be some confusion among the traders regarding the SOP (standard operating procedures) set for the MCO.

“I can see some traders manning their fruit stalls at the roadside, although they are not allowed to operate during this MCO period.

“Our MPV (Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit) men have issued them (traders) a warning, and instructed them to stop their operations immediately,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Stanley also said so far, no compound had been issued for violation of the SOP.

“We would advise the people first.

“The police would continue to monitor the situation to ensure SOP compliance by operators of business premises,” he said.

Stanley also reminded everyone to stay at home throughout the MCO period.

“Barring any urgent or emergency matter, it’s safer to just stay at home for the time being.”
