MIRI: Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) will not be holding its annual open-house event on the first day of Chinese New Year (CNY) 2021.

According to its secretariat, this decision is made as a precautionary measure to stem the spread of Covid-19.

“Traditionally, MCCCI’s open- house would be held on the first day of CNY, for its members to meet and greet people from different sectors and improve the relationship with one another.

“However, with Miri being a Red Zone, the board committee has decided to put on hold any event that involves gathering of crowds, in doing our part to curb the spread of the virus,” it said.

MCCCI also reminded everyone to strictly adhere to the  standard operating procedure (SOP) by wearing face masks properly, maintaining proper physical distancing and upholding good hygiene practices.

“The pandemic is already hurting the economy.

“We must do our part to help stop the chain of infection so that we could resume our daily routines,” added MCCCI.
