KUCHING: Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No.1 in Pending here saw an attendance of 95.8 per cent among its 2020 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates who resumed physical classes yesterday.

Principal Yap Chong Guan said the school delayed the resumption of physical classes for a couple of days even though the students were allowed to return to school on Jan 20.

“We have a total of 261 Senior Three students and 250 of them came back to school today (Monday), recording a turnout rate of 95.8 per cent,” he said in a statement.

Yap said two enforcement officers arrived at 9am to inspect the school’s adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOP), and were satisfied with what they saw in the classrooms.

Meanwhile, he said CHMS No.1 has opted to use Google Classroom to conduct online lessons for students from Junior One to Senior Two.

“Since the new school term began on Jan 20 the overall attendance (on Google Classroom) has hit 100 per cent while the lowest attendance rate was 96.34 per cent.

“Students need to uphold self-discipline and have a good habit of learning without supervision,” he said, adding that parents should also spend time monitoring their children during these virtual classroom sessions.
