SIBU: A total of 859 samples were collected from the mass Covid-19 screening conducted at Sibu Central Market for its hawkers from Feb 22 to 24, says state health director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

“From the number, one turned positive, 163 negative, and the rest pending test results” Dr Chin said when contacted yesterday.

He added that from the 1,255 samples taken from Sentosa zone,  two tested positive, four inconclusive and others pending.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), said based on the new case breakdown according to districts, the 80 new cases recorded in Sibu yesterday were mostly detected from active case detection (ACD) with 63 cases, 12 from voluntary screenings, three involving healthcare workers and two involving patients with symptoms who sought treatment at health centres.

Separately, 47 longhouses in Bawang Assan constituency were still being placed under lockdown, said a member of Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) Senator Robert Lau.

“So far, 80 longhouses in the constituency already have the lockdown lifted,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Rumah Saing (longhouse) accounted for 34 of the 46 cases reported in Sibu Rural District Council on Wednesday.

Lau advised: “The number is still high and I urge everyone to strictly comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) even within the longhouses, especially the shared space like the ruai.

“We have seen how quickly the virus spread within a longhouse. The latest was Rh Saing at Sg Lebaan with 34 cases Wednesday.

“Don’t allow people from other longhouse or outsiders to come for a visit,” he said.
