KAPIT: Fishermen here have been all smiles in the past few days as they have filled their nets with fish.
Longhouse folk residing along the Rajang and Baleh rivers have been bringing their abundant catches to town to sell at the market.
Among them yesterday was a couple from Nanga Yong, Batang Rajang, who spent recent days catching ikan buin with a net.
They sold the fish at well below the market rate for just RM10 per kg.
Shoppers quickly took up the good deal as normally the fish are priced from RM35 to RM45 per kg.
Over the past few months, incessant rainfall had caused high water levels along the Rajang River and its tributaries.
With the return of warmer temperatures and dry weather, the water level has become extremely low.
While difficult for river transportation, this has actually provided excellent conditions for fishing with nets in the river.
