MIRI (Mar 2): The Health Department will conduct a Covid-19 active contact tracing operation in Marudi after it recorded its first local infection, said Miri Disaster Management Committee minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

He told The Borneo post that the source of the infection was still under investigation and further details will be announced after the probe.

Lee, who is Transport Minister, pointed out that the case did not involve a longhouse.

“Following the first local case detected today, the Health Department has been tasked to conduct active case detection in the division. The case however is not from a longhouse,” he said.

The State Disaster Management Committee, in its daily update today, said a Covid-19 case was detected from the screening of a symptomatic individual at a health facility in Marudi. The district’s first case in January was an imported case.

With the case today, the district’s status has turned to yellow zone from green zone.

The Health Ministry categorises districts with no cases as green zones, while those with one to 20 cases over a two-week period as yellow zones, 21 to 40 as orange zones and 41 and above as red zones.

Marudi is one of 12 yellow zones in the state.
