Covid-19: 159 new cases in Sarawak, Sibu continues to top daily tally

KUCHING (Mar 2): Sarawak today recorded 159 Covid-19 cases, bringing the state’s tally to 9,924 cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

The state’s death toll remains at 83 as no fatality was reported today.

The 159 new cases were recorded in Sibu District (52), Betong (49), Kuching (18), Bintulu (15), Miri (9), Sarikei (5), Dalat (3), Samarahan (3), Sri Aman (1), Bukit Mabong (1), Marudi (1), Tatau (1) and Subis (1).

Out of Sibu’s 52 cases, 40 cases are individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts to Covid-19 positive cases, seven from screening at healthcare centres, three from screening of symptomatic individuals, and two from screening of healthcare workers.

All 49 cases in Betong District are from the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster.

In Kuching District, seven are imported cases, four are from the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, two from screening of individuals at healthcare centres, two from screening of symptomatic individuals, one case a result of ACD, one from screening of healthcare workers, and one imported case involving a non-citizen returning from China.

In Bintulu, all 15 cases are from ACD.

In Miri, eight cases are rfrom ACD, and one case from screening of healthcare workers.

All of Sarikei’s five cases are from ACD.

In Dalat, two cases are from ACD, and one from screening at a healthcare centre.

In Samarahan, one case is from the Jalan Green Cluster and categorised as imported from Kuching District, one from ACD, and one from screening at healthcare centre.

The one case each in Sri Aman District and Bukit Mabong District are from the screening of individuals at healthcare centres in the respective districts.

In Marudi District, one case is from screening of a symptomatic individual.

Each of the cases in Subis District and Tatau District are results of ACD.

Meanwhile, SDMC said there were 227 cases of recovery and discharge for the day.

They were from Sibu Hospital (107), Sarawak General Hospital (50), Sarikei Hospital (35), Bintulu Hospital (23), Miri Hospital (7) and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) under Kapit Hospital (5).

“As of today, 7,490 or 75.47 per cent of total cases have recovered and discharged. A total of 2,315 cases are still being treated at hospitals and various PKRC,” it said.

Out of the 2,315 cases, 1,004 are in Sibu Hospital and PKRC in Sibu, 323 in Bintulu Hospital and PKRC in Bintulu, 312 in SGH and PKRC in Kuching, 201 in Miri Hospital and PKRC in Miri, 187 in Kapit Hospital and PKRC in Kapit, 160 in Sarikei Hospital and PKRC in Sarikei, 93 in Betong Hospital and PKRC in Betong, and 35 in Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC in Sri Aman.

There were 163 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported today, with four still awaiting laboratory results.

This brought the cumulative total of PUIs to 22,499 to-date.

As for Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 272 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine today.

This brings the total of current PUS to 6,526 individuals at 90 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres statewide.
