KUCHING (Mar 4): One of two women who perished in an accident at the Sungai Besi–Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) yesterday has been identified as Nurina Edwin Abdullah, 47-year-old, from Lundu, Sarawak.

This was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya when contacted today.

He added that Nurina and four others were travelling in a van to their workplace when it was crushed by an overhead bridge structure which collapsed around 6pm.

The structure had collapsed after a trailer, driven by a 40-year-old man allegedly crashed into it.

The trailer driver has been arrested and remanded under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The other fatality in the incident was identified as Norhayati Abdullah, 42, from Kampung Jerang Belanga, Selangor.

Three others, including the driver of the van, had suffered serious injuries. All three victims are currently being treated at the Tuanku Muhriz Hospital.
