KANOWIT (June 24): The vaccination programme scheduled to be held at Dewan Penghulu Seribu at Nanga Tada resettlement scheme starting June 25 has been shifted to a new venue at Bawan here.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said this was due to the emergence of Nanga Tada cluster here.

He said the vaccination programme was targeted for longhouse residents at the resettlement scheme and areas along Jalan Nibong/Tada namely Bawan, Pedai, Tuah, Jih, Dap and others.

“The authority has decided to postpone the vaccination for Nanga Tada longhouse residents due to high number of Covid-19 cases in the resettlement.

“The programme will proceed as scheduled at a new venue in Bawan for longhouse residents from Semaram, Mapai, Woh, Bawan, Pedai, Tuah, Jih and Dap,” he said when contacted.

Aaron, who is also Kanowit MP, said the postponement of the vaccination programme for Nanga Tada residents will allow the Health Ministry to conduct active case detection (ACD) in the resettlement.

The Nanga Tada cluster which stemmed from a pre-Gawai Dayak ‘miring’ ceremony on May 31 was announced by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) yesterday.

This cluster involved three longhouses in the resettlement with 107 individuals tested positive so far.

The infection in the cluster also has reached the second generation, the committee said.

Meanwhile, Aaron said that the army will assist in the vaccination programme for longhouse residents at Nanga Jagau Resettlement Scheme.

He also disclosed that all longhouse residents in Machan and Nanga Ngungun had completed their first dose.

“Kanowit District Office multipurpose hall vaccination centre (PPV) is doing daily vaccination to all those around Kanowit town and longhouses nearby.

“The ministry is working hard to make sure those eligible for vaccination will not be left out,” he said.
