KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has urged the Federal Government to speed up delivery of Covid-19 vaccines to Sabah.
“We have opened up 151 vaccine administration centres (PPV) throughout Sabah and mobilised outreach programmes to the interior but unfortunately supply of vaccine is slow,” he said.
Also affected by the shortage of vaccines was the Public-Private Partnership Covid-19 Industry Immunisation Programme or PIKAS, which was to start this month.
To this end, Hajiji hoped the vaccine supply would reach Sabah soon as promised by the Federal Government.
“We want to meet the target of 30,000 people vaccinated daily this month under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK),” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Dato Seri Bung Moktar Radin on Sunday also called on the Federal government to take into account the safety and health of Sabahans by providing adequate vaccines for the people in the state.
He said the insufficient supply of Covid-19 vaccines in the state is hampering the government efforts to get more people vaccinated.
Earlier, at the meeting with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), Sabah Committee, Hajiji said much had been done on the ground to get as many people vaccinated to contain the Covid-19 spread.
MICCI led by its chairman, Datuk Seri Wong Khen Thau, discussed the impact of this pandemic on the economy as well as raised pertinent issues and look forward to working with the State Government to address these.
This include, among others the gradual opening of economic activities in the state, setting up of Sabah desks at strategic regions such as in China and Europe to attract investors to Sabah.
The MICCI, being the oldest established organisation in the country, has a vast international network and link which will put it in good stead to complement the state government’s investment agenda, he said.
