The Borneo Post’s Ronnie Teo re-elected Kuching Division Journalists Association president

KUCHING (April 15): Ronnie Teo from The Borneo Post has been re-elected as the president of the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) for the term 2023 to 2025 during its annual general meeting (AGM) here today.

Zulazhar Sheblee from The Star was retained as vice-president and as well secretary Firdaus Arasy Idris from RTM assisted by Dayak Daily’s Nurshikin Louis.

Treasurer Kelly Chong from See Hua Daily also retained her post, assisted by Zaphne Philip of Bernama who was also uncontested.

The executive committee also saw some new and familiar faces elected into office – Johnlister Chan (Sin Chew Daily), Farah Diana Shamsuddin (TVS), Jeeridyne Chan (TVS), Nancy Nais (Dayak Daily), and Angeline Lim (Sarawak Public Communications Unit), while Jacqueline David (The Borneo Post) has been appointed as advisor and Edmund Chang (See Hua Daily) as Auditor.

KDJA currently has a strong 380 members. It was established in 1972 to look after the welfare of media practitioners and improve media professionalism in the Kuching Division.

Teo meanwhile said he will continue to do what has been in place to enhance the media industry in terms of skill, quality and ethics.

“We will continue to collaborate with Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) with some of the programmes already in-line for this year, the Hari Wartawan Nasional 2023 (Hawana 2023), media Pontianak trip, Mount Kinabalu 3.0 series among others.

“One of the most anticipated programmes is the Sarawak media visit to Pontianak in July 2023, to foster ties with the journalists between Indonesia and Malaysia, especially when the Indonesian capital is going to be in Nusantara, in East Kalimantan.

“We also want to continue to take up the challenge issued by the Sarawak Premier to scale Mount Kinabalu, known as the 3.0 series in conjunction with Sarawak Day this year,” he said.

The AGM was attended by about 30 reporters, photographers, videographers and editors from various media outlets in Kuching.
