KUCHING (Feb 23): Padawan police have activated a special operation under ‘Ops Cantas’ to track down suspects involved in a fight in front of a premises at Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang last night.

Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police have identified several individuals involved in the brawl.

“Around 10pm last night (Feb 22), a police report was received from a man in his 30s, who claimed that the dispute started between two siblings,” said Abang Zainal.

He said the dispute escalated into chaos when the friends of both siblings got involved.

Abang Zainal said the complainant suffered light head injuries due to a fall after he tried to escape from the chaos and was giving outpatient treatment at a private hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison, or a fine, or both upon conviction.

“I would like to remind the public to lodge any report of criminal activities for the police to carry out immediate investigations,” said Abang Zainal.

He added instead of sharing videos on social media platforms, official reports are crucial for the police to act immediately.

He also called on witnesses of the fight to come forward to assist with the investigation.

A video of the altercation taken from a distance was shared on Facebook and has since gone viral.
